" S. T. WALKER & SONS, drapery and boot emporium, Ayr Street, Jamestown. CLARENCE WELLESLEY WALKER, proprietor of the above business, is the eldest son of Mr. J.T. Walker, and was born at Mount Barker, South Australia in 1874. After the completion of his education at Prince Alfred College, as a youth he went into the drapery store conducted by Mr. Charles H. Hale, North Adelaide where he gained his initiation into the trade. Proceeding to Broken Hill, he entered his father's business in that town, and two years later received the appointment of manager which he retained for nine years.
In 1902 he took the management of the business at Jamestown, and in January, 1907 upon the retirement of his father from active business pursuits became proprietor of the concern, which he has carried on successfully from the time of his first arrival in the town. The emporium was formerly the property of Mr. E.J. Wills, who conducted it for fifteen years prior to it's purchase by Mr. J.T.Walker, and comprises two shops connected by an archway, well stocked with fancy goods, electroplate, drapery, boots and shoes, clothing and mercery, etc. The gentleman under review takes a great interest in local social functions, and is a most enthusiastic member of the Dramatic Club, of which he is the honorary secretary.
In 1901 he married Florence Isabel, daughter of the late Mr. Eddy, of Mount Barker, and has two daughters and one son."
